What Is "Serious Fun"?

Bear Spot Foundation Takes on the Freestyle!

The Bear Spot Foundation for Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy’s annual Freestyle fundraising event began in 2006. Top horse and rider combinations came together to support the Foundation and to have a great time. Bear Spot Farm in Concord, MA became a beehive of activity. Huge white tents, caterers, loud speakers, vendors and spectators all meshed together to watch the nation’s best ride, dance and entertain for a good cause.

Our All-New Format

Now, the format has changed. Thanks to two generous donors, Freestyle will be offering over $5,000 in prize money which will be awarded to the top finishers. All of the members of the audience will be provided with key pads so that they can vote for their favorite horse and rider combination. In addition, the riders will be judged by a panel of the nation’s top dressage judges. In the event of a tie, their scores will help determine the winner. Read more...

Welcome to Creative!

“This has been such an exciting event for the riders and the audience. We are thrilled to bring an added dimension. The usual constraints within freestyle competition will not be applied here. We want the riders to be as creative as they would like with the music and movements.”

Banner Year Ahead

There will be no entry fee required of the riders, and the slots will be filled by rider request and invitation. “We would like to have our roster complete by the middle of the show season so that we can really promote our riders and the event.” said Dr. Jane Karol, founding director of Bear Spot Foundation. “If anyone would like to participate, they should definitely contact us.”

2010 looks to be a banner year!
